Aurora, Sweden.

After a few days of absence, Aurora is back in Abisko again. And with an intensity that even astonishes the most hardcore Northern lights hunters. Not hunting “her”, I was still glad to see Aurora again the last few nights :)

Rallarkyrkogården, Tornehamn.

If you want to get to get in touch with the soul of Northern Sweden’s railway, take yourself to the graveyard in Tornehamn. Situated on a hill besides the wonderful Torneträsk, the place just oozes of melancholy and a strange calm. You really sense that here lies a lot of love, sweat, tears and even more pain and lost dreams.

And suddenly all the ghost stories that are told in Abisko seem to be very, very real.

On the way back to Abisko, Sweden.

After a short trip back home, Sweden welcomed me with a huge Northern light. It seemed as if Lapland felt that my heart was longing to another place and was trying to get it back up here. Quite convincing, ey?

Aurora @Aurora Sky Station, Abisko.

When up here, going up to the Aurora Sky Station is more or less a must. Cause you will never be closer to the Northern lights. At least not in such a comfortable way. So, another check on my list of all the musts that have to be done here. And I’m pretty sure I’m going to check this box more than just one time.

Aurora @lake Torneträsk.

Sometimes, luck is a matter of forcing oneself to something one does not want. Like going out in the cold on a Sunday evening, when you’ve been snuggling on the sofa, drinking tea and watching some stupid film. The good thing with luck, however, is that you always feel great with it in the end.

Luleå in a new Light, Norrbotten.

When the sun disappears for winter, man has to become creative. That’s probably why the Lulebor started an autumn light festival, Luleå i nytt ljus, last year. During this year’s  second edition, you could find some very creative light installations that brightened up the otherwise mostly dark days up here. It was nice to see the town in this new light - it’ll be the last thing I’ll see of it for a while.

So, shine on!

Abisko, Norrbotten.

Unnecessary to lose any words about where I was. This time featuring: Abiskojåkkas river canyon.

Låktatjåkko, Norrbotten

If you ever feel like waffles, try out Låktatjåkko Fjällstation at 1230 m a.s.l. They are famous for their sweet waffle treats* and have besides that the most high-lying bar in Sweden. And if that isn’t convincing enough, yet, let me just say that the way up is just amazing. Especially when the first snowstorm of the season is raging.

*They are in fact so good, I couldn’t even take a picture of them before they disappeared…

Abisko, Norrbotten.

No matter how upset the world inside of me is, Abisko always fixes it. It is just magic. And this very weekend, the place did some extra magic tricks. Thanx for that!

Kitsch, Norrbotten.

Sometimes you just need a dose of kitsch. And I know exactly where to get it :)
